Reviews: J.Crew Factory Pleated Maxiskirt and Half-Flower Fringe Necklace

Hi there!  A few Factory reviews for you to get you ready for spring…

First up, the J.Crew Factory Pleated Maxiskirt in Flirty Peach

factory pleated maxi skirt

It was the color that immediately drew me to this skirt – I don’t own a lot of peach/coral and it’s a color I’m trying to add in to my wardrobe. I immediately thought about my upcoming Caribbean vacation and thought this would be perfect with a white tank and denim jacket and a matching necklace – very easy, beachy, casual. I was also well aware that this could be one of those items that look way better in my head than it would on me. But, I figured I’d give it a shot. The skirt is 100% polyester with an acetate lining.

20140329_091126The color is very close to what’s depicted on the website. I took my usual J.Crew skirt size (12) in this and it was the right size. At 5’8″, it grazes my ankles. I don’t think I would want it much longer, with the structured pleats it looks good at this length. The skirt has a chiffon feel to it but the acetate lining is …well, it’s acetate. I worry that it would be hot in warmer weather, it doesn’t seem like it would be very breathable at all. I really want to like this skirt but don’t think it’s doing any favors for my lower half. I feel like I look really wide and even though the waistline of the skirt sits right on my waist, I still feel cut off at my midsection. Then I thought maybe I just needed to add a jacket to make it work.

20140330_132028I like it a little better with the jacket. In all honesty, I think this is a skirt for the straighter bottomed ladies. I will not share the rear shot with you. I don’t know, maybe I’m having a bad image day but I’m not 100% on this skirt. Aside from not loving the way it looks on me, I do think the lining will be problematic for making it breathable in the summer. It is a very pretty skirt though and I can see a lot of people doing it justice, I think it’s just not for me. I’m wearing the J.Crew Tybee Patent Slide Sandals in  Moroccan Sand in this photo. Jacket is Gap from last year and the tee is an older Factory Graphic Tee. Finally, here’s the Factory Half-Flower Fringe Necklace in melon which matches the skirt perfectly.

This is a pretty necklace, very reminiscent of the fan fringe necklace that Factory re-released this year. I might keep it to coordinate with other spring/summer items. The fringe stones are a light blueish grey. As I said, I don’t have a lot of peach/coral colored items, so I’ll have to go through my closet to see what else this will really match if I don’t end up keeping the skirt.

So, what do you think of these items? I’m having a really tough time deciding on the skirt – would love to hear your feedback! Thanks so much for visiting!

  1. The skirt looks pretty on you in these pics. The color is gorgeous and I love how you styled it. I think you are right about the fabric, polyester and acetate are not very comfortable in hot weather. Are you just buying the skirt for your trip to the Caribbean?

    1. Thank you! I did buy it with my trip in mind so thinking about the heat is making me hesitant to keep it. It’s not something I can wear to work and while I could wear it on the weekends, I do have a lot of casual summer wear and end up gravitating to the same outfits. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for taking the time to comment!

  2. I agree,the skirt looks great on you-very beachy!
It is def a no go for me,as i am a shortie:). It is perfect for your vacation!

    1. Thank you Ina! I envy your ability to wear those adorable mini skirts…so I guess it’s a trade off!! Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I really like it on you. However, it sounds like you don’t love it. I find that if I have to talk myself self into keeping something I never wear much. I think you should return it and find something that makes you feel good when you wear it.

    1. Thank you. I agree – someone else said to me that if I have to ask I know the answer. It’s still fun to share it with everyone and I really appreciate all of the feedback! Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thank you! It really is pretty and I think a lot of people will do it justice! Appreciate the feedback, thanks for stopping by!

  4. I think the color is beachy, but the pleats make it more structured. There’s not a lot of flow that says ocean breeze flowing with umbrella drink in hand ;). I think you can do the style/length, but just maybe not pleats.

If you don’t love it, return it. Why feel 47% good in it when you should feel 100% good ?

    $0.02

    1. Thanks, Gigi. I really appreciate your input – and I think the pleats may be doing it. Thank you so much for the other skirt suggestion. I saw a few things on the Nordstrom site I just may have to check out!! Thanks for stopping by, I always value your insight!

  6. I really like this skirt on you too, the whole outfit really, but agree about the material. The peachy pink color is beautiful on you – definitely add more of it to your closet! 🙂
