Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve done a try on session so let’s go in the dressing room at J.Crew to check out some new Spring arrivals. It’s still a bit early in Western New York for linen and white jeans but trying these items on has me ready for warmer weather spring fashion. I am already thinking about my late spring and summer work and weekend wardrobe. I found several items that will work well for both work and casual. There were some hits and misses as usual. Let’s get started – in the dressing room for J.Crew spring. You can shop the items via the captioned links or via the links at the end of the post.
First up, linen trouser pants and a cashmere sweater tee. I have a growing collection of sweater tees and shells. I find these to be the perfect elevated basic to take an outfit from more casual to looking a bit dressier. I have been hit and miss with J.Crew pants over the years and these pants are an immediate love. They are a tad large on my waist but the hip and leg is perfect. They are not lined I am wearing my larger number size (12) and my smaller letter size for the sweater (M) I will need to have the length taken down on these. The website lists the inseam as 32″ which I’m not sure I believe but I need at least another inch to wear with short heels. They also come in tall length which would give me a bit more rise. I may try the tall length to compare. You could add a linen blazer for a perfect summer suit or flat sandals to make this a bit more casual.
Next up, the same pants with a linen merino shell. Give me ALL the gold buttons this season. I’m wearing this in my larger letter size (L) which helped with the length on this. It also comes in a blue color. I loved this top with the linen pants and could also see pairing with trouser jeans or shorts or white jeans. This is on my wish list for summer. The color is a little off in the photo but the stock photo is pretty accurate. I love the visual line the seam creates across the shoulders.
Staying on the linen path, I wanted to try some vests and this scoop neck linen vest caught my eye. It comes in several neutral shades as well as a peppermint pink shade that is currently on sale. I like that the buttons are the same color as the vest. I’m wearing with the slim wide leg jeans. I own these in a lighter denim wash which I reviewed in my curvy denim post. This pair I tried in a size up from the size I have in the light wash pair and the waist was big but I still had some pulling on my hips. White jeans are a whole different denim game and I think I’d try the curvy version of these instead. This top came home with me and I’m planning to wear with black linen shorts and the linen trouser pants. It’s even better in person!
Now on to a slim fit linen vest. I bought a few of these from Target last year and layered with a tank underneath. This I’m wearing my usual J.Crew top size (10) which fits well and doesn’t show cleavage. I still feel a little undressed for work so this would be more of a casual top for me. There are pants in a coordinating color for a more matched look. I wanted to try the navy but they didn’t have that color so I tried the green which is more like a grass green than military green. I’m wearing with the trouser jeans which are big in the waist but also pulling a little bit in the hips. The vest also has an adjustable buckle in the back.
One more vest – a striped sweater vest and iteration of the popular Emilie sweater cardigan. This is also cotton and I’m in my larger letter size (L) to give a little extra length and room. It’s a tad large under the arms but not bad. This is still a sweater weight, maybe not as heavy as the cardigan version. I’d try this layered with a t-shirt underneath too. I really like this too and yes, it’s more gold buttons and stripes and I keep getting sucked in. I’m wearing with pull on linen pants which I’m wearing in my larger letter size (L). I had to cinch the waist on these a bit and did not try in the smaller size. I think the room on these is good but next time I’d try to compare. Relaxed is the look for these.
Here we have one more linen piece – a polka dot linen shell. This runs large, I’m in my smaller letter size (M) and had room but wouldn’t size down any more. It has buttons in the back and you could pair with the matching linen pants, white or black pants or jeans. I will be incorporating this piece in to my summer work and casual wardrobe. This top also comes in a variety of neutral colors.
Next up, we’ll move to some linen dresses. I was a little anxious to share my pale legs that I am always self conscious about but here we go. First up is a linen popover dress which I really liked. I have had trouble with J.Crew’s linen dresses in the past, usually they are not shaped for my figure and the shift dresses are usually a bit too tight in the hips if they fit my waist/chest area and sizing up doesn’t work. This has a nice flowy drape and while it’s a little short I didn’t mind it and it would be an easy summer dress. This does come in tall too and I may try that to compare. I’m wearing my larger letter size (L) which is a bit oversized but not bad. You might be able to go down a size if you’re less curvy.
Next up is a short sleeve linen shirt dress that has been slightly updated this year. Again, I tried this in the past and could never get a handle on sizing. This is still a little bunchy in the hips with the pockets which I suppose you could cut out and sew the pockets shut if they bothered you. They may also need a good steaming to stay flat. I am in my larger letter size (L). I wish this had non contrasting buttons. I’d probably swap the tie for a regular belt but the tie makes it look a bit less casual. This is a classic summer style and I added some accessory suggestions in the collage.
Last but certainly not least is this beautiful Liberty of London dress. We’ve seen less Liberty items lately from J.Crew and I’m glad to see them pop back up. I have nowhere to wear this dress and it does require a strapless bra but it is so beautiful. I’m wearing my usual J.Crew top size/smaller dress size (10) and it’s perfect with a bit of room in the chest. I am not wearing a bra with padding in this photo and wouldn’t size down any more so that I could accommodate a strapless bra. If this goes on sale, I will consider it. I like that the print is a bit more neutral but right in line with the pops of red we’re seeing everywhere. You could punch this up with red or pink accessories or keep them neutral like I showed below.
What do you think of these spring arrivals? Have you tried any of them yet? Would love to hear what you think and thanks for stopping by!

Love your fitting room try ons! I am a fan of J Crew’s linen and cashmere. I really like the scoop neck vest. I hadn’t paid much attention to it but now I need to check it out. Looks super cute on you. The stripe cashmere sweater is a good choice too and I like the Emilie vest on you. I have the black/white version and it’s definitely a winner. That cashmere sweater was in the 30% off promo and I opted for the red/blue version. Wish I had ordered it. It’s now secluded from the promo.
